Peterhof is situated on the southern shore of the Finnish Gulf, 30 km away from St. Petersburg. It became a magnificent royal residence and a triumphal monument to the successful end of the Northern War and Russia's access to the Baltic Sea, as was conceived by Peter the Great. There is a naval town of Kronshtadt situated on the island in the middle of the Gulf of Finland , that for a long time was a town of special protection. Now there is a Russian military naval base. The island is connected with the main land by special construction the dam that prevents the city from floods. We will see the town of Knoshtadt and the dam on the way back from Peterhof park.
